New financial arrangement on tap for Henry County coroner

Local legislation is being sought to change the way the Henry County coroner is paid.
By Monroe Roark
Dec 25, 2017Henry County’s coroner and deputy coroner will see a change in their compensation if local legislation is passed in the next General Assembly session. The Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 4 to formally request such action from the county’s legislative delegation, which is required by law for such changes to occur.
Currently the coroner and deputy coroner are each paid an investigation fee per case and submit monthly statements to that effect. Under the new setup the coroner will received a $65,000 annual salary with benefits, and the deputy coroner will receive $175 per call not to exceed $15,600 per year with no benefits. The proposed legislation would also create a full-time deputy coroner position for the first time.
