Cobb County’s Board of Commissioners has selected Dr. Jatunn Gibson as the new director of Cobb Senior Services.

Interim Director Sandee Panichi was named as deputy director.

Dr. Gibson has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, according to a Cobb County news release.

She has invested the last 12 years of her career working in various roles to manage, implement and evaluate programs in academia and community settings.

These programs are focused on the health of the aging population and caregivers.

As an assistant professor/extension specialist in Gerontology and assistant director of Family and Consumer Sciences, she was responsible for statewide program implementation, supervising staff and managing grant funds on the local, state and national levels.

She also has managed a national program to improve the housing conditions of low-income, older adults.

Dr. Gibson maintains her certification as a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) and Certified Aging in Place Specialist.

An active member of her church, she also is involved with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
