The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 Tuesday to name a long-time Cobb employee as the new county clerk.
Pam Byrd has served as a county employee for 16 years.
Voting against her selection were Commissioners Lisa Cupid and Bob Ott who said they were opposed to the selection process, which did not include the commissioners, and not to Byrd.
Though supporting Byrd, even Commissioners JoAnn Birrell and Bob Weatherford said they hoped the selection process will be amended, going forward.
Byrd replaces Candy Ellison after her “unfortunate, untimely” death on July 2, Commission Chairman Tim Lee said Tuesday - though not citing the cause.
Employed by Cobb County government since 1998, Ellison had served as the county clerk since 2009.
