Alpharetta’s current branch library at 238 Canton St. will permanently shut its doors as at the end of the day Friday, making way for a new and much larger branch slated to open July 30.

The new 25,000-square-foot branch is setting up shop in the Alpharetta City Center development, 10 Park Plaza. The new two-story facility includes a large ground-floor auditorium with state-of-the-art presentation equipment, expanded and separate children and teen spaces, study rooms and interactive technology allowing for video conferencing and other interactive, collaborative work. The current outmoded facility is just 10,000 square feet.

The new branch was built with money generated from a 2008 library bond referendum.
