A National Night Out Against Crime event is planned for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Riverside community, formerly known as the Six Flags community.

Hosted by We Thrive in Riverside Renters’ Association, this 10th annual event will be held on the front lawn of Parkview Apartments, 360 Riverside Parkway, Austell with assistance from the Cobb County Police Department.

The event’s purpose is for local police department staff and neighbors to connect, reconnect and build relationships with one another, according to Monica DeLancy, founder and executive director of We Thrive in Riverside.

The Riverside community has a rental occupancy rate of 65 percent, she said.

Renters pay more than 50 percent of their income on rent, and the community has a 30 to 40 percent transient rate.

We Thrive in Riverside provides opportunities for renters to get involved through outreach events, meetings, resources and quarterly newsletters to the community.
