News of a threatening letter left on a National Guardsman's car in Cobb County has taken social media by storm.
Channel 2's Ross Cavitt spoke with veterans about this threat at a Cobb County VFW Hall.
"We're taking it very seriously," Vietnam veteran Jack Carver said. "Here, we're taking the decals off our cars. We want to know more about it, obviously."
We obtained a police report that shows a 23-year-old Army National Guard reservist who works in a Marietta office tower was on his way home Monday night when he noticed the letter tucked under his windshield.
The young reservist told police his car was on the top level of the parking garage from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. He had a reservist tag on his car.
The letter, which was posted on social media websites, threatened death to "Coward women child killer and all American military at the hands of Mohammed."
Georgia Army National Guard Cmdr. Thomas Carden confirmed the victim is a guard member and says they have no idea whether the letter is a joke, prank or valid threat.
The letter was found just days after five members of the military were shot and killed in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
"We need to take reasonable measures to make sure not only that soldier, but every soldier has a heightened sense of awareness and we need to do whatever we can to protect them," Carden said.
