Jury selection begins Tuesday in the Fulton County trial of four men accused of gang activity in connection with a month-long crime spree in 2010 that concluded with a murder and rape.

Charles Boyer was shot and killed on Nov. 22, 2010, as he and his girlfriend got out the car to walk to her apartment, police said.

The night after Boyer’s death, police said a group of men entered a Grant Park apartment where they tied up the male residents and sexually assaulted their female roommate before robbing the home.

Prosecutors allege that Tamario Wise, Raphael Cross and Robert Veal were connected to both incidents and have charged them with murder and a variety of other crimes, including rape, aggravated assault, armed robbery and participation in criminal street gang activity as part of a 90-count indictment.

Another co-defendant, Fernandez Whatley, 21, was not named on charges related to the November rape or murder.

Wise, 19, who was 18 at the time of his December 2010 arrest on the charges, was considered to be the ringleader of the robbing crew that prosecutors say terrorized residents and homeowners in Benteen Park, Virginia Highlands, Ormewood Park, Grant Park, Lakewood Heights and Old Fourth Ward.

Between Oct. 19 and Nov. 27 of that year, prosecutors said the four – alleged to be members of the so-called “Jack Boys” gang – were also responsible for 17 armed robberies and six carjackings in those areas.
