The Mount Vernon Highway bridge over Ga. 400 in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area will be closed during the overnight hours through Friday, as crews relocate utilities for the continuing reconstruction of the nearby Ga. 400/I-285 interchange.
The closure of the bridge, between Peachtree Dunwoody and Barfield roads, was scheduled for 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly starting Monday night, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The recommended detour for motorists heading east on Mount Vernon is to turn left on Barfield Road/Mercedes Drive to Abernathy Road, and right on Abernathy back to Mount Vernon, GDOT said. Westbound motorists should follow the same route in reverse.
Drivers heading north on Crestline Parkway, which is east of the Ga. 400 bridge, will be able to turn right onto Mount Vernon.
In other project news, GDOT announced nighttime traffic pacing to allow bridge construction affecting the ramp from southbound Ga. 400 to westbound I-285. Police will hold traffic on the ramp for about 10 minutes at a time from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday.
