The Kennesaw City Council voted 3-2 Monday to halt pension and health care benefits for re-elected and newly elected city officials.

Opposed were Leonard Church and Tim Killingsworth.

Those in favor were C Cris Eaton-Welsh, the measure’s sponsor, and Debra Williams and Jim Sebastian.

Eaton-Welsh said Monday it was not fair for city employees to have to pay into their pensions, while city council members do not.

These benefits will end for the current council members at the end of their terms - Dec. 31 this year for Eaton-Welsh and Killingsworth and 2017 for Church, Sebastian and Williams.
