South Cobb Regional Library and a local nonprofit organization are hosting food distribution events for children, ages 18 and younger, each Monday in July.

Georgia Educational Resources Inc. will offer free packages of breakfast and lunch emergency meals that should last for seven days.

On a first-come, first-served basis, the meals will be available from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays, July 6-27, in the library’s parking lot, 805 Clay Road, Mableton.

“Our South Cobb staff members are very eager to join local schools, faith communities, civic clubs and others working hard to close the food security gap faced by many families,” said South Cobb Branch Manager Roxanne Magaw.

The library is an anchor institution for the South Cobb community, she added.

“We continuously seek opportunities to serve as a community partner for all educators and students in South Cobb,” Magaw said.

The first day of the grab-and-go Free Meals to Children program coincides with the July 6 reopening of South Cobb Regional and six other Cobb public libraries.

Due to health and safety protocols, the libraries will open under limited services with patrons entering the libraries for generally short visits due to physical distancing and other COVID-19 safety guidelines, according to a library statement.

Under limited services, hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
