The city of Atlanta’s Department of Public Works announced recently that Mitchell Street will be closed temporarily to continue improvements to the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge and Mitchell Street now through Aug. 6, weather permitting. Infrastructure improvements including street widening, installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, signal improvements, street lights and restriping will occur during the closure.
The improvements are part of the realignment of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (east of Northside Drive) to accommodate construction on the new Atlanta stadium.
Variable message boards have been placed on Mitchell Street at Mangum Street and west of Northside Drive since late February to notify commuters and residents of the closure.
