Milton has adopted a 30-day emergency moratorium on accepting conceptual plans for development for almost all the land along Ga. 9 in town, from the Forsyth County line to the Alpharetta city limits.

Ga. 9 is intended to become Milton’s commercial corridor, but city officials recently realized that their existing, form-based codes allow high-density residential uses like townhouses to be developed facing the highway.

In fact, two such projects already have been approved, officials said.

The City Council on Monday approved a resolution imposing the moratorium along Ga. 9 except for the Five Acre Road Zone. It applies to applications for subdivision conceptual plans, and gives the city time to update its codes.

A public hearing is planned to extend the moratorium beyond 30 days.
