Some Milton residents will be paying more in property taxes for FY 2016.
The Milton City Council Monday night finalized this year’s millage rate of 4.731, which is unchanged since the city’s incorporation. The city’s tax digest this year rose to more than $2 billion. Officials said a combination of re-assessments and improvements has resulted in property taxes that will be 6.5 percent higher than in 2014. They said that although the total digest rose, valuations varied, with some residents set to pay more, others less and still others the same.
Property tax bills will be mailed Sept. 1, with payments due Oct. 31.
Setting of the rate figures into the city’s 2016 fiscal year budget process, which kicks off with an Aug. 10 workshop and continues with two public hearings in September prior to final adoption Sept. 21.
