As part of National Police Week, the Milton Police Department will host a memorial service, honoring Georgia officers who were killed in the line of duty.

The service is May 18 and begins at 10 a.m. at Milton City Hall.

Milton police captain Charles Barstow says the city has never had an officer killed in the line of duty, but the event allows the department to honor police officers locally and nationally who “sacrificed their lives.”

“It also allows us to give back to our community and engage with them in various venues throughout the week, which strengthens the bond between residents and the officers who serve their community,” Barstow said.

The event is free to attend and open to the public.
