Expanding the city’s green space holdings, the Milton City Council has approved paying $5.7 million for 88.6 acres in the vicinity of Bethany and Providence roads.
The council approved a $324,350 contract with Bolivar Aviles-Alfaro Jr., trustee; Ana Maria Aviles McCaa, trustee; and Esmeralda Aviles Wells to buy a tract of about 5 acres on Bethany Road. The council also approved a $5.4 million contract with James R. Wells for four nearby parcels totaling 83.6 acres on Bethany and Providence roads.
“The Milton Greenspace Advisory Committee … identified these five parcels for acquisition as part of the city’s green space initiative,” according to an agenda memo to the council by Community Development Director Parag Agrawai. The parcels met several criteria, Agrawai said, “including water resources, natural areas and wildlife habitats, and proximity to trails and public assets.”
Milton previously paid $1.4 million for about 21 acres at Freemanville and Birmingham roads, and $3.8 million for roughly 109 acres along Lackey and Sweetapple roads.
