The Milton City Council has approved two sales agreements totaling more than $2.6 million to acquire another 33 acres of land for the city’s greenspace initiative.

The city is paying $1.6 million to Cogburn Road Investments L.P. for 4.82 acres on Webb Road; and $1.05 million to Red Bull Holdings LLC for 28.2 acres on Hamby Road, according to minutes of the April 22 council meeting.

The Cogburn property borders a larger parcel of conservation land, and the purchase will preserve a natural area, wildlife habitat and viewshed “in an otherwise heavily developed part of the city,” staff said in a report to the council.

The Red Bull site meets several criteria for potential acquisitions, “including water resources, natural areas and wildlife habitat, and rural viewshed,” staff said. Both transactions have a 45-day due diligence period before closing.

Earlier this month, the council approved spending $5.7 million for 88.6 acres of green space in the vicinity of Bethany and Providence roads.

Milton previously paid $1.4 million for about 21 acres at Freemanville and Birmingham roads, and $3.8 million for roughly 109 acres along Lackey and Sweetapple roads.
