Milton officials announced the selection of Parag Agrawal, an architect with more than 15 years’ experience in planning and development, as the city’s community development director beginning Dec. 10.
Agrawal has served at the state and local levels in the Northeast and Midwest and currently is deputy director of the DeKalb County Department of Planning, Development and Sustainability. He succeeds Kathy Field, who left the post earlier this year.
His areas of expertise include historic preservation, long-range master planning, small area plans and overlays, economic development, zoning, transportation and tree canopy conservation. He authored 16 planning guidance handbooks to help Rhode Island municipalities craft comprehensive plans to guide local decision-making.
In Milton, Agrawal will oversee an annual budget of about $1.3 million dollars and a staff of eight city employees. He also will provide administrative oversight of the city’s outsourced building permit services contract.
“Parag’s extensive planning experience at the highest levels, combined with his degrees in architecture and planning, make him an ideal fit for Milton,” said City Manager Steve Krokoff.
