A $19,152 grant recently accepted by the Milton City Council will fund the purchase of 18 sets of fire-oriented, bullet-resistant helmets and vests for the Milton Fire Department.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation proffered a Memorandum of Understanding to fund the award, with the city managing the actual purchase of the equipment, Fire Chief Robert Edgar told the council.

In similar action, the Johns Creek City Council accepted an $8,610 grant from the Firehouse Subs Foundation to pay for 42 ballistic helmets for the Johns Creek Fire Department.

The grant places a ballistic helmet in every seat of fire apparatus “to be shared among the members should the need arise … at incidents involving acts of violence or as deemed necessary by the Incident Commander…” Johns Creek Fire Chief Jeff Hogan said in a memo to his council.
