The Milton City Council has enacted an emergency moratorium on land disturbance permits in the city while it considers a potential conservation subdivision ordinance.

The vote Monday night means the city will bar accepting land disturbance applications for a broad swath of agriculturally and residentially-zoned property categories. The city’s planning director says calling a temporary halt will allow them to consider possibly requiring conservation subdivision design. Such subdivisions set aside a certain amount of land to protect such things as wildlife and water quality.

Residents wanting to learn more about conservation subdivision plans can attend a community zoning information meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday at Milton City Hall, 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Suite 107.
