Seeking time to update its codes, Milton has extended until Dec. 6 a moratorium on accepting conceptual plans for development for almost all the land along Ga. 9, from the Forsyth County line to the Alpharetta city limits.

The Council adopted an emergency, 30-day moratorium Aug. 15 for Ga. 9 in the city except for the Five Acre Road Zone. It applies to applications for subdivision conceptual plans. The extension to December was enacted recently following a public hearing that had to be held before the moratorium could be extended.

Ga. 9 is supposed to become Milton’s commercial corridor, but city officials recently realized their existing, form-based codes allow high-density residential uses like townhouses to be developed facing the highway. In fact, two such projects already have been approved, officials said.
