Milton is launching a Citizens Government Academy to give participants an in-depth look at municipal government.

The seven-week course will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 16. Classes will be held at City Hall and other government buildings to let enrollees experience all city facilities and meet city officials and staff, officials said.

Through presentations and hands-on projects, residents will learn about emergency services, law enforcement, planning and zoning, finance and budget, court systems, public works, special projects, parks and recreation and other city functions.

The inaugural class will be limited to 15 participants, at least 21 years old and a Milton resident or business owner. A second class is planned on or about May 1. For information and to submit an application: http://bit.ly/2B0oEJ2.

“We’re excited to give our residents a unique behind-the-scenes look at what we do and hope to build an even greater sense of community among our residents through this new program,” said Courtney Spriggs, Milton’s community outreach and engagement manager.
