Four metro Atlantans have been named in a list of 25 Southerners who Southern Living says "represent the best of our region."

Lance and April Ledbetter, Asha Gomez and Meherwan Irani were all named "Southerners of the Year."

The Ledbetters were recognized for their record label, Dust-to-Digital, which specializes in collecting, curating, repackaging and producing recordings of vintage music. Their entry also named North Carolinan historian and folklorist William Ferris, whose work was featured on a box set Dust-to-Digital released in June, "Voices of Mississippi."

"It's Dust-to-Digital's contemporary approach to resurrecting the sounds of the past that has made its reissue label so popular, even earning Grammy nominations for its collections of archival recordings," Southern Living wrote.

Meherwan Irani, of Chai Pani in Decatur; and Asha Gomez, of The Third Space in Atlanta, were included in an entry for a dinner event series called Brown in the South.

The series of collaborative dinners features chefs of Indian descent who have made the South their home. The dinners showcase the culture, culinary heritage and cooking styles of the chefs, while keeping the focus on southern ingredients and uniquely southern themes, according to the series’ website.

"Their collaborative dinners make for meatier exchanges about an immigrant cuisine that can often take side dish status in conversations about Southern food," the publication wrote.

Last year, metro Atlantans to receive the honor were Abiodun Henderson for her work with at-risk youth and former gang members; Clarkston Mayor Edward "Ted" Terry for helping the immigrant population in Clarkston; and Marian Liou, who works with the Buford Highway-focused nonprofit, We Love BuHi.
