Two Newton County police officers are credited with saving the life of a woman choking to death in a parking lot.

Sgt. Courtney Morrison and Cpl. Colin Cunningham were on patrol when they received a call that a woman was choking outside a convenience store, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The 60-year-old woman was choking to death in the parking lot of a convenience store.

“I just went into law enforcement mode,” Morrison told Channel 2. “I didn’t have time to think really about anything. You just resort back to your training at that moment.”

Officers performed the Heimlich maneuver on the 60-year-old woman and successfully dislodged the item in her throat.

“You could tell she was very thankful,” Cunningham said. “There were folks actually walking by as she was choking and they paid her no attention.”

Channel 2 reported that Morrison and Cunningham don’t usually work together, but they were in the right place at the right time.
