The Kennesaw City Council voted 5-0 Monday to allow the construction of an enclosed medical waste treatment plant.
RedX Medical was granted the special land-use permit on undeveloped property at 3700 Kennesaw 75 Parkway N.W., in the Kennesaw 75 Industrial Park to build this facility on land zoned Heavy Industrial.
The process of material waste handling would be achieved “under a new technology and machinery that’s totally integrated and will not require outdoor storage or escape of fumes or odors,” according to city officials.
Tempico’s Rotoclave will accept a wide range of infectious medical waste and sterilize all waste with steam and agitation.
Waste would include “sharps, bulk liquids, pathological waste, laboratory animal carcasses and bedding, plastics, metals, linens, glass, etc.”
Coming from local hospitals, the medical waste would be broken down to “a sterile, physically harmless end-product that is dried, shredded and readily accepted at landfills.”
Containment of the medical waste would be done at the Kennesaw site for transportation to landfill sites.
