The state House has passed several controversial measures aiming to revamp the Fulton County government, which Northside Republicans say needs major changes after decades of waste and dysfunction. House Bill 171 would give north Fulton an extra vote on the County Commission and eliminate one of the two at-large seats, and it passed 99-54.

Also approved Friday, HB 346 would make the elected tax commissioner an appointed department head answering to the commission, HB 347 would have state legislators picking the county’s elections board chairperson instead of the commission and HB 441 and 442 would give control of the Superior and State court budgets to the court administrators. The bills now move on to the Senate.
