Matilda’s, the popular North Fulton music spot, has won conditional approval from the Alpharetta City Council for an outdoor concert venue on Main Street, its second in downtown Alpharetta.

Applicants John Morley and Mary Jane Potter requested rezoning of the 2.22-acre site at 531 S. Main St. and a conditional use to allow outdoor music and a special events facility. Staff recommended approval with 16 conditions, among them no more than 200 concert-goers at a time, and music limited to 5 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from April to November.

The property has a historic farmhouse occupied by The Porch, an antique and home décor business, as well as a 2,200-square-foot barn, staff said. Matilda’s has held concerts there under a temporary use permit.

Matilda’s formerly was about ¼ mile to the east, at 377 S. Main St. Earlier this year, it won approval from the Milton City Council for an outdoor music venue in that city. “It is the intent of the applicant to alternate music events between the Milton and Alpharetta locations,” staff said.
