MARTA restored service at the East Lake train station Thursday evening after a woman tried to jump in front of a train heading eastbound, officials say.
Lyle Harris, a spokesman for the Transit Authority, said the woman managed to jump through the door of the operator’s cabin about 5 p.m. as the train was pulling into the station. Service was restored at 7:30 p.m.
Harris said he didn’t know how fast the train was moving at the time of the crash.
She was removed by emergency medical service workers and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, he said. Her condition is unknown and her name has not been released.
“It was either through an act of great timing or luck that she crashed through the doors,” Harris said.
Rail service was delayed for about two hours after the incident.
MARTA provided buses between Edgewood/Candler Park, Decatur, and East Lake stations to continue service after announcing serious delays on Blue and Green lines.
