Starting Dec. 7, MARTA is altering some bus routes around the busy Decatur Station.

The agency is making changes to Route 19 (Clairmont Road)Route 123 (Church Street/North DeKalb Mall) and Route 823 (Belvedere). Some portions of the routes are being discontinued or replaced by other lines.

Among the biggest proposed changes would extend Route 19 down Commerce Drive and W. Howard Avenue to the East Lake MARTA station. The route will be renamed “Clairmont Road/W. Howard Avenue.”

Route 123 takes passengers from Decatur Station to North DeKalb Mall via Emory Decatur Hospital. Route 823 goes down Candler Road and Memorial Drive to Belvedere Lane. Under the new changes, it will no longer service Midway Road and Carter Road due to low ridership, MARTA said.

MARTA said it proposed the route changes based on its own service analysis and feedback from customers. It held a public hearing on the modifications in September.

“These route adjustments will improve safety, operating efficiency, and schedule reliability,” the agency said in a statement.
