MARTA Police are being recognized for excellence Monday. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) has singled out the 350-officer agency with its “Accreditation with Excellence Award.”

“MARTA Police play a critical role in our efforts to serve our customers, and this award further confirms our unwavering commitment to providing a safe and secure transit system,” said General Manager Keith Parker.

The accrediting organization first accredited MARTA in 1996, which signified that the agency met or exceeded standards for police departments. CALEA reviews a department’s success in developing and implementing contemporary policies and procedures and collecting, reviewing and analyzing organizational data for public safety service improvement.
