Doraville police have charged a MARTA bus driver who authorities said drove off I-285 and crashed into trees early Monday, a spokesman for the transit authority said.

About 5 a.m., the driver was eastbound on I-285 near the Buford Highway exit when bus 2507 left the interstate, MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris said. The incident prompted officials to close the ramp for hours.

“The bus operator was charged by Doraville police with driving too fast for conditions and submitted to mandatory testing,” he said.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the incident.

“We are thankful that no one was injured in this unfortunate accident,” Harris said.

The bus was towed and the ramp reopened just before 8 a.m., according to Channel 2 Action News.
