The city of Marietta will soon begin repaving South Park Square in downtown Sunday.

The resurfacing will begin at 5 p.m. April 14, and no parking will be allowed on South Park from that time and throughout the week, the city said on its Facebook page.

Drivers will be able to use South Park during the day, but not at night as crews will use that time to work on the repaving project.

Residents are urged to move vehicles from the street by 5 p.m. April 12 or they will be towed, the city warned.

The repaving efforts are part of the city’s South Park Square improvement project, which includes the removal of six trees and old bricks and installation of storm and sewer improvements.

The city on Thursday also installed six new trees to replace the ones that were removed. Project plans also call for new street lighting and wider, ADA-accessible walkways.

The project began in January and officials hope to wrap the improvements up by the Taste of Marietta, which is scheduled for Sunday, April 28.
