Alan J. Levine, 46, was sworn in Tuesday to serve on the seven-member Marietta City Schools Board of Education. Levine was the only candidate to qualify for the Ward I seat vacated by Brett Bittner on April 30.

Levine, a Marietta attorney and former teacher, said he would like the district to reconnect to the community, work with schools of higher learning and move from an emphasis of standardized testing to a culture of academic and intellectual risk taking.
