The Marietta City Council is expected to vote Oct. 14 on New Year’s Eve details, including a ball drop for the first time.
The city’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Committee is recommending to include the item on the council’s consent agenda.
If approved, a cube, containing a ball, would be dropped from a spider crane near the Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square by Marietta Square Branding Project Inc.
The eight-foot-square cube is being designed by students from Kennesaw State University but with the appearance of the interior ball being kept a secret.
New Year’s Eve events also would include live music on three stages, ice sculpting and an early celebration for children with all of the restaurants around the Marietta Square open.
The council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 205 Lawrence St.
