Marietta ponders name change for Franklin Road

After removing many of the deteriorating apartment complexes on Franklin Road, now Marietta officials are considering changing the name of Franklin Road to attract upscale developers to the area.

However, that decision may not come until Nov 11.

City Council members discussed the matter Wednesday during a work session and resolved to contact the area’s property owners and the Gateway Marietta Community Improvement District community before possibly changing the name to Gateway Boulevard.

This change would affect all of Franklin Road from Banberry Road to Cobb Parkway.

Also, the city might name part of Gateway Boulevard - from South Marietta Parkway to Delk Road - J.W. Franklin and Sons Pottery Commemorative Highway.
