Marietta police are asking for prescription pills you don't want, or shouldn't have, before they end up where they're not supposed to.

On Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., give your unwanted pills to the Marietta Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

You can do so without giving your name and with no questions asked at the department, 240 Lemon St.

The DEA can't accept liquids or needles, so that means only pills and patches.

This is better than throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet, as those methods pose potential health hazards.

Marietta police said this is the 12th time in six years they are running one of these events.

"Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse," the department said.
