The Marietta Police Department conducted a retirement ceremony today for K-9 Ava, following seven years of service.

An eight-year-old Czech Shepherd, Ava was born in the Czech Republic. Over the years, Ava obtained her certifications for narcotics detection, obedience, scent discrimination tracking/trailing and article searches. She began her career as a drug K-9 for Marietta High School.

Later Ava assisted with drug and people searches. She finished her career with her handler, Officer Paula Goss, working the road on the evening shift.

Ava will continue to reside in the home of her handler.
