Marietta opened its $3.75 million Custer Park Sports and Fitness Center Monday.
The new center includes recreation sports activities, fitness classes, cardio equipment, a small meeting space and expanded parking that will serve the center and the adjacent soccer complex operated by the YMCA.
The fitness facility is available by monthly membership or a daily fee with limited facility rentals.
The expanded multi-purpose gym can be configured into two full-size basketball courts, three volleyball courts, six badminton courts or a combination. The gym will be home to recreation department leagues, camps and clinics.
The Marietta Fit Pass will give the owner access to the cardio-and-weight area along with the “Fitness on Demand” classes and open-play gym with no long-term commitment and cancellation at any time.
The facility’s cost by the city included purchasing the former Turner Chapel facility at 545 Kenneth E. Marcus Way next to Custer Park and an adjacent property to the north plus building renovations — all as a part of the $25 million parks bond approved by city voters in 2009.
