A free gun safety seminar will be hosted by the Marietta Police Department (MPD) later in March.

The seminar will start at 6:30 p.m. March 31 at City Council Chambers, Marietta City Hall, 205 Lawrence St., Marietta.

The seminar will include - but not be limited to - the following topics:

  • Firearm/Weapon Safety
  • Firearm/Weapon Storage
  • Firearm/Weapon Law
  • Recommended Home Defense Weapons
  • Civilian Model Stun Guns
  • Carry/Use of Pepper Spray

Hosts will be Marietta Police Majors Jake King and Brian Marshall.

Commander of the MPD Specialized Weapons And Tactics (SWAT), King has been in law enforcement for more than 21 years.

Marshall is the MPD Range Master who has been in law enforcement for more than 23 years.

Working together, King and Marshall have taught numerous classes - with participants numbering in the tens of thousands - on topics including gun safety and response to active-shooter events.

This seminar is lecture based only so that citizens are not required to bring anything, especially no firearms and no weapons.

Information packets will be provided to participants.

Open to all ages, the seminar will last about two hours.
