A shopping center was approved 5-2 by the Marietta City Council on Feb. 14.

Opposed were Councilmen Andy Morris and Johnny Walker.

In favor were Councilmen Grif Chalfant, Reggie Copeland and Joseph Goldstein and Councilwomen Michelle Cooper Kelly and Cheryl Richardson.

Mayor Steve Tumlin expressed his desire that the historic house on the property be retained.

The shopping center will consist of a deli, a sit-down restaurant and retail, such as medical or a spa, on one acre at 789 Church St. across from the new emergency department expansion at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

BAMM Real Estate was the applicant for Peoples Financial Corp., the property owner.

Prohibited uses will be auto service stations, billiards, pool halls, video arcades, car washes, convenience stores and places of assembly.
