The Marietta City Council is expected to consider whether to ask residents if they want term limits for the mayor and city council members.

If approved by the council during the 7 p.m. Wednesday meeting in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 205 Lawrence St., the nonbinding referendum would be placed on the Nov. 3 general election ballot, according to Thursday’s draft agenda.

Residents would be asked if they think the mayor should serve no more than two consecutive terms and if council members should be limited to three consecutive terms.

Those term limits would begin with the November 2017 city election for terms beginning January 2018.
