Losses from the massive fire and explosions at a Marietta chemical company are being estimated at $20.5 million, according to reports released by the Marietta fire department. Employees were working at an Amrep warehouse when fire broke out May 23, but fire alarms alerted them to the blaze and all escaped, the reports say. One worker was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.
The reports also reveal that in the morning after the fire, company representatives found that leaks were coming from two large tanks at the site, and that firefighters discovered a pile of 50-gallon drums still smoldering.
