Marietta will change its vegetative waste bag policy, beginning Sunday.

Only compostable brown paper bags for all grass clippings, pine needles, leaves and similar yard trimmings will be accepted to reduce costs.

Marietta customers still are permitted to use nondisposable, rigid containers for similar yard debris.

No other provisions for yard debris service are changing at this time.

Marietta is one of the last cities in the state to accept plastic vegetative waste bags.

These plastic bags are not accepted at the city’s waste transfer stations since they are not compostable.

At an increased cost, the city’s crews have had to unload each bag at the residential addresses and either return the plastic bags to the residents or dispose of them.
