The Marietta City Council has approved its first Comfort Suites hotel, a part of Choice Hotels International.

Based in Rockville, Maryland, Choice Hotels has more than 7,000 hotels with nearly 570,000 rooms in greater than 40 countries and territories.

The applicant is Mac Kharat of Kingston Court LLC.

With 55 rooms, the five-story hotel will be built on 1.44 acres at 2164 Kingston Court, according to Marietta Development Services Department Director Rusty Roth in a statement.

Next door at 2168 Kingston Court, a Home2 Suites by Hilton is under construction with 146 extended-stay rooms, also occupying the same acreage.

These properties are near the interchange of Delk Road at I-75.

Previously, that property was occupied by a Holiday Inn and conference center until a fire in 2006.
