Marietta restaurants are now allowed to sell beer and wine with take-out orders during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The city said it was notified last week by the Georgia Department of Revenue that it has relaxed rules related to the sale of these alcoholic beverages during the state of emergency declared by Gov. Brian Kemp.

Marietta restaurant or brew pubs with alcohol licenses can sell beer and wine in unopened containers to customers purchasing carry-out orders.

These drinks can be sold except during days and times when they are prohibited or within distances of certain buildings spelled out in the city’s ordinance.

Restaurants are not allowed to sell distilled spirits with take-out orders, the city said. Marietta said its rule will be applied retroactively to March 24, which is when the City Council approved its state of emergency declaration.

The cities of Smyrna and Kennesaw allowed restaurants to sell beer and wine with take-out orders earlier this month when they passed their own orders declaring a state of emergency.
