A special land use permit from Turner Chapel AME Church to build a new food and clothing pantry was approved by the Marietta City Council on Aug. 14.
The Marcus Mission Center will be constructed on 0.636 acres at 527 and 533 Lawrence St. in a residence style at 1,890 square feet.
Hours are expected to be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Between May 2018 and April 2019, the church served 1159 households and 3691 persons and gave away 94,852 pounds of food to this community.
Currently, the pantry is housed at the church’s Counseling Center, 480 Fairground St., Marietta with limited space.
Setback reductions were approved by the Council from 75 feet to 29 feet on the front, 75 feet to 11 feet on the west and 75 feet to 71 feet on the east.
Also, the church will be allowed to use gravel as the parking surface.
The church, 492 N. Marietta Parkway, Marietta and the Lawrence Street Recreation Center are directly across from the new center to the south.
