The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to begin quarterly inspections of the 116 Cobb Community Transit buses.
A study by consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff in April revealed “a large backlog of needed repairs” to 43 of those buses selected randomly, said Cobb Department of Transportation Director Faye DiMassimo.
Parsons said CCT bus conditions are considered to be “marginal,” she added.
CCT’s service provider, Transdev Services, is in the process of completing the backlogged maintenance needs.
To check up on Transdev, Parsons will perform two quarterly fleet assessments at no more than $85,790 in November and next April with 80 percent coming from a Federal Transit Administration grant of $68,632 and 20 percent from the county for $17,158.
For 35 new CCT buses being manufactured now, Transit Resource Center will be paid $10,150, with 80 percent from an FTA grant of $8,120 and $2,030 by the county, to inspect the build.
Also, TRC will be paid $18,270 to inspect the future build of 63 more buses, as needed, with 80 percent, or $14,616, from an FTA grant and 20 percent, or $3,654, from the county.
