A man used tools he "borrowed" from a north Georgia Walmart to break into the store's cash registers and steal a large amount of cash.

The man walked into the 24-hour store on Shugart Road, just east of I-75, around 1:30 a.m. Monday, said Bruce Frazier, spokesman for Dalton police.

The suspect went to the tools section of the store and obtained a hammer and crowbar, Frazier said. He then went to the automotive section and used the tools to break into the cash register. He proceeded to the sporting goods section, where he broke into that cash register. Both of the registers were unstaffed at the time.

The man walked out of the store with about $600 in cash, Frazier said.

The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black-and-white Converse-style sneakers, Frazier said.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect should call Dalton Police Det. Ricky Long at 706-278-9085, ext. 168.
