A 24-year-old man turned himself in to authorities in Florida for allegedly fatally stabbing his roommate in Gwinnett County.
Stephen O’Reilly surrendered to officers in Escambia County, Fla., on Monday, Gwinnett police said.
He was wanted in the death of 28-year-old Brent Francis, who was found suffering from multiple stab wounds Saturday afternoon at a home in the 2400 block of Hurndon Road in unincorporated Snellville, authorities said.
Francis told officers that O’Reilly had attacked him, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said in Tuesday’s news release. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he later died.
Police determined that O’Reilly had taken Francis’ black 1994 Toyota Camry and fled the scene. A murder warrant was obtained and a national lookout notice was issued.
O’Reilly turned himself, and Francis’ stolen vehicle was located in Pensacola, Fla., Smith said. The suspect is in custody in Escambia County and awaiting extradition to Gwinnett County.
Police said the motive in the case is still under investigation.
