Cobb County police on Tuesday identified the knife-wielding man who was shot by officers Sunday night at a home in Mableton.

Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce told the AJC that the county's 911 center received a call shortly before 9:30 p.m. about a man armed with a knife in the 6200 block of Pisgah Road.

"Responding officers got the location and attempted to persuade the suspect, who was inside the home, to surrender peacefully," Pierce said. "The suspect confronted the officers with a knife, and those officers were compelled to use deadly force against him."

The dead man was identified Tuesday as 29-year-old Gary Huel Jones.
