Fulton County police shared surveillance video from outside a popular restaurant that shows what led up to a man being shot in the parking lot.

Police said the victim, who only identified himself as Herbert, showed up at Dugan's Restaurant on Old National Highway, but the doors were locked for a private wedding after-party on April 13.

"I asked them was there a place where I can go party at this time," Herbert told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri.

He said he approached a group outside to ask about another venue when one of the men got angry and threatened him.

"I walked back to the car and next thing I know I hear gunshots," Herbert said. "When I seen it I was like, 'Is this really happening?' I mean all I asked was a question."

He told Viteri he carries a gun for protection but was reluctant to pull it at first over something so trivial.

He eventually did return shots, but the men ran to two SUVs and left. Bullets damaged a nerve in his hip and lower leg.

"If they're this brazen and bold to do this, they've possibly done it in the past and it could happen again," warned Detective Melissa Parker with the Fulton County Police Department.

Herbert said he's not able to work as a truck driver because of his injuries. He said doctors aren't sure if he'll be able to walk normally again.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
